Looking back, this simple phrase has been a guiding principle for our company. It’s why we jumped in to start manufacturing critical PPE at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s why we’ve taken every possible step as a company to compete head-on with overseas manufacturers.
Along the way, we've committed to doing what is right, rather than what is easy. Whether it be ethical material sourcing, employing a living-wage workforce, or leading the way for biodegradable materials in the medical industry, we believe it’s just the right thing to do for our country and our community.
UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Tracing back to our roots in education, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals have longstanding importance to our team. In 2016, 200 governments from around the world gathered together to establish 17 global goals to achieve within their own countries by 2030. At The Canadian Shield, we have identified 7 goals as targets to advance within Canada.
At The Canadian Shield we strive to create a workplace community that fosters safety, diversity and inclusion for our team. By offering a living wage and employee meal program we are contributing to UN Global Goals 1, 2, 3, and 8.
We are also proud to employ a 48% female workforce in an industry where the average is just 28%.
We're committed to making the manufacturing industry more sustainable. We've structured our business around accountability, including testing, compliance, and ethical sourcing.
With the aim of contributing to UN Global Goals 9 & 12, we’ve made significant investments into advanced automation systems and innovative products. This technology is not only helping to advance the industry, but also to produce the highest quality product possible with the least amount of waste.
Supporting and giving back to our community is something that has always been near and dear to our hearts. We’ve made it a priority to donate hundreds of thousands of face shields and face masks to the frontline workers and community members that supported us.
We also acknowledge that disposable PPE can have negative impacts on our environment. That’s why we’re working to accomplish UN Global Goal 9 & 12. We are actively working on a number of solutions that would help to improve the sustainability of our products.
From reusable and recyclable face shields to medical-grade face masks made with sustainable materials - we’re working every day to lessen the impacts of medical waste on our environment.
