Shipping & Fulfillment Timelines

The Canadian Shield will fulfill all online orders within the stated fulfilment timeline. For online orders, the estimated time for you to receive your order is the fulfillment time + the shipping time. Please review our Shipping Information page for our most up to date shipping timelines.

External factors, such as third-party delivery services, national supply chain shortages, or natural disasters, may result in shipment delays. Our team aims to be proactive in communicating any fulfillment delays which are within our control. Please check your email inbox and junk folder for updates from our team.

Please be advised that any shipping delays once the order has left our facility are beyond our control. The Canadian Shield cannot contact UPS, Canada Post, or other third-party courier to track down shipments. Furthermore, The Canadian Shield cannot assist when it comes to delays as a result of natural disasters (i.e. the flooding in British Columbia). We kindly ask that you reach out to the courier directly as they will be able to help you track down your package.

If there is an issue with the delivery of your shipment from the courier, (i.e. damaged, lost, or undeliverable package) customers must contact and/or submit a claim with UPS or the applicable courier. Once that claim is filed, The Canadian Shield team is happy to help resolve the issue by refunding the order, or sending out a replacement shipment.

Pre-Orders

If your online order is for a product which is labelled as a 'Pre-Order', it will be subject to a different fulfillment timeline than in-stock product. The estimated fulfillment timeline for any pre-order will be listed in the description of the product listing. This information is also included in the 'Pre-Order Info' email which is sent after checkout is complete.

Please be advised that this estimated fulfillment timeline for product pre-orders is not a guarantee. External factors, such as volatile supply chains, may result in fulfillment delays. Please review the second paragraph above, under "Shipping & Fulfillment timelines".

Product Substitutions

Due to the volatility of the PPE and rapid test supply chain, product substitutions may be offered if a product you ordered is no longer available or there is a significant delay for fulfillment.

If your order requires a product substitution, you will be contacted with the details of the substitute product, as well as your other options for the order if the product substitute is not acceptable to you.

If you fail to respond or cancel the order, The Canadian Shield reserves the right to make the substitution of greater or equal value.

The Canadian Shield team works hard to be proactive in communicating any delays or issues with online order fulfillment. Please check your email inbox and junk folder for updates from our team. If you have any questions about your outstanding order, our team is happy to help and can be reached by submitting a support ticket at: support.canadianshiledppe.ca.

Wrong Address Policy

If you’ve entered the incorrect shipping address at checkout, you will still have the chance to update it using the 'Update Address' button located in the order confirmation window, as well as at the bottom of the order confirmation email. Due to the high volume of inquiries, it is important that customers use the method described above to update the shipping address. Rapid Tests

Before Rapid Testing kits can be purchased, the applicable training materials and documents must be reviewed.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate knowledge, skills and judgement to perform the test. The Rapid Response COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test Device is intended for use by trained laboratory personnel or health care professionals.

Rapid antigen testing devices should only be used for screening purposes. Nucleic acid-based testing, also called molecular testing or PCR, is the gold standard to diagnose active COVID-19 infection in patients with symptoms. For more information about self-testing and antigen testing devices, please visit the Health Canada website here

Order Cancellation

In the event you’ve changed your mind and would like to cancel your order, you’ll need to use the 'View or cancel my order' button linked in your order confirmation email to cancel the order. (Your order confirmation email will have your order #00000 in the subject line. This email is different than the 'Pre-Order Info' email you may have also received).

To avoid delays, you **MUST** cancel the order using the method described above. Due to the extreme volume of inquiries, if you submit customer support ticket or reach out on social media, we may not be able to process your request before your order has shipped out.

BioMask™ Procedural Mask - ASTM Level 2 (50/Box)

The Canadian Shield’s BioMask™ is a biodegradable* medical-grade procedural face mask that can break down in the landfill.

The BioMask aims to offer an environmentally conscious alternative to disposable medical-grade face masks, thereby helping to reduce the massive environmental footprint left behind by medical PPE waste.

The BioMask has also been tested to comply with ASTM F2100-20 requirements for medical-grade face masks.

FEATURES

  • Same Form, Same Function: The BioMask™ provides the same coverage, form, and function as traditional face masks, but in a biodegradable* format.
  • Full Coverage: Our pleated design offers full coverage of the nose and mouth. Added nose stiffener offers a tight seal to minimize gaps.
  • No Special Processing: The BioMask   is disposed of the same way as traditional face masks. The biodegradation* process takes place when the BioMask   reaches the landfill.
  • Complies with ASTM F2100-20 Level 2 requirements

HOW IT WORKS

The BioMask proprietary blend of nonwoven biodegradable material is made by incorporating an additive during the manufacturing process. Once in the landfill, the BioMaskTM is exposed to microbes and enzymes which begin to eat away at the treated plastic.

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • The BioMask is made with latex-free, fibreglass-free, and graphene-free materials
  • Earloops are made of 70% polyester and 30% spandex
  • Nosebridge is made of plastic-coated steel
  • Biodegradation testing performed on the nonwoven mask body does not include the nosebridge or earloops

    * Biodegradation rates of the BioMask™ nonwoven material measured according to the ASTM D5511-18 standard. The BioMask™, excluding the earloops and nosebridge, has been tested to biodegrade 6.5% in 45 days. The biodegradation rates may change based on the landfill conditions present.

The Canadian Shield BioMask - Biodegradable, Medical-Grade Procedural Face Mask - ASTM Level 1, Level 2, Level 3

Since the start of COVID-19, it's estimated that tens of millions of single-use face masks are disposed of in Canada each day.

Polypropylene, which is the most commonly-used material in disposable face masks, can take hundreds of years to degrade in a landfill.

The Canadian Shield BioMask - Biodegradable, Medical-Grade Procedural Face Mask - ASTM Level 1, Level 2, Level 3

The BioMask™ is an ASTM F2100-20 face mask that can degrade in the landfill.

The BioMask™ nonwoven material is made by incorporating a proprietary additive during the manufacturing process, making it anaerobically biodegradable*.

The Canadian Shield BioMask - Biodegradable, Medical-Grade Procedural Face Mask - ASTM Level 1, Level 2, Level 3

The biodegradation* of the BioMask™ occurs when the nonwoven material is exposed to microbes and enzymes in a landfill, which begin to eat away at the treated plastic.

The anaerobic biodegradability* allows the BioMask™ to break down below the surface of the landfill, without the presence of oxygen.

    The Details

    * Biodegradation rates of the BioMask™ nonwoven material measured according to the ASTM D5511-18 standard. The BioMask™, excluding the earloops and nosebridge, has been tested to biodegrade 6.5% in 45 days. The biodegradation rates may change based on the landfill conditions present.

What the BioMask™ is and how it works.

    BioMask™ FAQs

The goal of biodegradable face masks is to lessen the impact of plastic on our environment as a result of PPE medical-waste. By creating the BioMask™, we're able to offer an environmentally conscious alternative to traditional disposable masks that's biodegradable*.

The BioMask™ body consists of 3 layers of our proprietary biodegradable* nonwoven material. While it’s our end goal to create a face mask that is 100% biodegradable, at the moment, the earloops and nose bridge of the mask are not made with biodegradable materials.

Even without a complete breakdown of the entire mask, a biodegradable mask body is a nontrivial way to achieve a reduction in the amount of landfill space required to dispose of single-use face masks. Considering the significant increase in the use of disposable face masks both at a national or global level, this is a large step in the right direction for our environment.

You can dispose of a BioMask™ the same way you would dispose of a traditional face mask - in the garbage. The BioMask™ proprietary blend of nonwoven material is made by incorporating an additive during the manufacturing process. Once in the landfill, the BioMask™ is exposed to microbes and enzymes which begin to eat away at the treated plastic.

Yes! The proprietary additive used in the BioMask™ is incorporated during the manufacturing process of the nonwoven material, which makes up the mask body. This finished nonwoven material, with the additive, has been tested and passes biocompatibility requirements for ISO 10993. In simple terms, this means that the BioMask™, and the additive used to manufacture it, is safe for use on the human face.

The BioMask™ is not a compostable face mask. The BioMask™ is designed to degrade anaerobically, meaning without oxygen. Once in the landfill, the BioMask™ is exposed to microbes and enzymes which begin to eat away at the treated plastic due to the proprietary additive in the material. In contrast, compostable face masks would rely on aerobic, or aboveground, decomposition, where oxygen can freely reach the waste in order to help it decompose.

Anaerobic biodegradation refers to the ability of the polypropylene material to breakdown without the presence of oxygen. In landfills, where waste is compacted layer upon layer, it can be difficult for oxygen to reach below the surface. The anaerobic properties of the BioMask™ provide the key components required for biodegradability in the landfill, which is where the majority of disposable PPE ends up.

ASTM stands for the American Society for Testing and Materials. It is the governing body that sets the requirements for all sorts of products, including medical-grade face masks which fall under the ASTM F2100 standard.

Biodegradation rates of the BioMask™ nonwoven material measured according to the ASTM D5511-18 standard. The BioMask™, excluding the earloops and nosebridge, has been tested to biodegrade 6.5% in 45 days. The biodegradation rates may change based on the landfill conditions present.

Nonwoven refers to the type of process used to manufacture certain types of materials. Compared to ‘woven’ material such as cotton, polyester or other fabrics, nonwoven material is made up of long and short fibres which are bonded together instead of being intertwined or woven together.
