Product Development and Manufacturing Technologist

InkSmith Ltd. is seeking an experienced and dynamic Product Development and Manufacturing Technologist to join their team at The Canadian Shield. As the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way we live and work across Canada, parent-company InkSmith quickly pivoted into manufacturing medical devices in the wake of the PPE shortage across Canada. Today, InkSmith has scaled The Canadian Shield into a full-fledge PPE manufacturing business with the goal of bringing medical manufacturing back to Canada. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participate and provide support for the R&D department to design new products and improve existing ones
  • Manage existing product CAD files, manufacturing drawings, and version control
  • Sketch, design, and develop new products and tooling using SolidWorks
  • Take ownership of new products and their development, through conception, design, manufacturing implementation, and continuous product improvement
  • Design and develop processes to improve efficiency, reliability, and quality for product function and manufacturability
  • Support manufacturing and operations in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues
  • Create and maintain documentation to support manufacturing changes, assembly procedures, change-over procedures, QA procedures and Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
  • Assisting sales & marketing departments with product requirements for the creation of graphics and other assets as required

Qualifications

  • Must have a well-rounded background with hands-on manufacturing engineering experience in a high tech environment
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, manufacturing, and engineering requirements and constraints
  • College diploma in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering Technology or University degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced team environment, set priorities, and meet prescribed deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Technical communication skills both verbal and written
  • Great debugging, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Able to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across the organization
  • Able to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schematics

  • Good knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
  • Experience with PPE (personal protective equipment) product development
  • Coding experience
  • Familiar with quality and manufacturing standards such as ISO, ANSI, ASTM, EN
